Styli are components of the probe system of coordinate measuring machines, mainly used to touch the surface of workpieces. Through the mechanical displacement of the probe, a signal is triggered and measurement data is collected. Currently, the most widely used styli in the market are made of ruby. According to the measurement requirements of parts with different shapes, styli are also classified into many types: Spherical styli: They are the simplest type of styli, suitable for most inspection applications such as dimension, form and position, and coordinate measurements. The ball diameter is generally 0.3 - 8.0mm, and the material mainly used is industrial ruby with high hardness and strong wear - resistance; it is the most widely used type of styli.
